Directed by Cynthia Wade, Freeheld tells the story of Lieutenant Laurel Hester, a dying New Jersey police officer, and her legal battle to transfer her pension to her partner, Stacie Andree. Laurel is working to beat the clock in her attempts to provide for her beloved partner while the Freeholders, Lt. Hester's elected officials, stand firmly against her and the town erupts around her. Freeheld is the Academy Award winner for best documentary short subject and has won over 14 festival awards, including recognition at Seattle, Sundance and Palm Springs.
